Kaslo offers up an impressive array of dining options. From take out to elegant fine dining, Kaslo welcomes visitors with an array of culinary temptations.
Are there camping facilities available?
A number of options are available for camping in and around Kaslo. The Kaslo Municipal Campground is located right on the waterfront and within walking distance of shops, restaurants, museums, galleries, a top rated Skate Park and two National Historical Sites. There are also a number of private and provincial campgrounds in close proximity to Kaslo.
We are traveling by motorcycle - are the roads suitable?
Kaslo is a favourite destination for those traveling by motorcycle. Two motorcycle campgrounds are located within 15 minutes of Kaslo and the roads leading into and out of Kaslo have been cited in numerous magazines as some of the most popular in North America for motorcycling enthusiasts.
We will be camping for a week in Kaslo. What amenities are available?
Kaslo has all the amenities you would expect in a much larger centre including 2 grocery stores, a health food store, meat market, drug store and hospital with 24/7 emergency services.
How is the fishing in Kootenay Lake?
Kootenay Lake is famous for the Gerrard strain of rainbow trout as well as Kokanee Salmon, Bull Trout and Dolly Varden. Fly fishing in the late summer near creek mouths is also popular and productive.
Are there golf courses near Kaslo?
There are a number of excellent golf courses in and around Kaslo. The Kaslo Golf Club operates a 9 hole course with spectacular views of the lake and surrounding mountains and glaciers from every hole. The new timber frame club house is complete with restaurant and equipment rentals.

The village of Kaslo sits at 1791 feet (545 meters). It is surrounded by the Selkirk and Purcell mountain ranges with peaks that reach over 10,000 feet (3048 meters). The top of Mount Buchanan, just outside Kaslo, is a popular destination for hikers, and mountain bikers and those with a high clearance vehicle. The recently rebuilt Fire Look Out sits at 1907 meters (6257 feet).

Are there any annual events or festivals to attend in Kaslo?
Kaslo hosts a number of celebrations throughout the year including:
• Kaslo May Days: This three day event has been continually celebrated for over 100 years and features the longest consecutive annual Maypole Dance in North America. Other features include a Logger Sports Competition, Skate Park Demonstration, Car Show, Horse Show, music in the park and parade.
Kaslo Jazz Etc Festival: This internationally recognized festival takes place on the Friday, Saturday and Sunday of the August long weekend. The intimate venue, unique floating stage, superb musicians and mountain backdrop keep people coming back year after year.
Kaslo Sufferfest: This 2-day, multi-event run & bike festival takes place on the first weekend in October and has something for everyone! “Pick Your Pleasure” a 10k, 25k or 50k trail run, cross country and downhill mountain bike or a kid´s race. All races take place on the spectacular and challenging trails surrounding Kaslo with live music and video at the finish line.
• Kaslo Winter in the Forest: This annual event takes place in February and features sleigh rides, winter themed races, woodsmen sports and lots of hot chocolate.

How big is Kootenay Lake?
Kootenay Lake is a long narrow and deep fjord-like lake. The basin has steep sides, and a relatively flat bottom. The main body of the lake is 107 km. (66.5 miles) long with an average width of 3.8 km. (2.4 miles). The average depth is 94 meters (208 feet) with a maximum of 150 meters (492 feet).
