Galena Trail - Three Forks Trailhead
- At the flashing red light in Kaslo turn left onto A Ave.
- Proceed up the hill to the flashing red light and turn left onto Hwy. 31A.
- Drive approximately 39 km (24 miles) to Sandon and turn left at the Sandon junction. Park in the pullout on the right.
- Descend and cross a small creek and follow the signs for the Galena Trail.
- This trail goes all the way to New Denver so either park a second vehicle at the New Denver Trailhead or plan to hike or hitchhike back. The New Denver Trailhead is on the New Denver Siding Road (marked by a blue and white hiker sign) off Hwy 31A. just before you reach New Denver. Park in the highway maintenance yard.
Galena Trail - Sandon Trailhead
- Follow the directions for the Three Forks Trailhead but instead of parking at the junction, follow the Sandon road for 6 km (3.7 miles) into Sandon and park on the left by the Historical Railway Trail interpretive sign.
- Follow the gravel road that used to be the rail bed for approximately 5 minutes. When you reach a three pronged fork, follow the middle, level, two track road. The rail bed eventually narrows and becomes more overgrown.
- At 5.7 km (approx. 1 ¼ hours) from the trailhead reach Payne Bluffs junction. Turn left toward Three Forks.
- The trail descends about 1.7 km (1.1 miles) to reach the Three Forks Trailhead (junction of Hwy. 31 A and Sandon Rd.). From here you can return to Sandon by following Sandon Rd. or continue onto New Denver via the Three Forks trailhead.
